This is my first painting of Padre Island National Seashore where I spent two weeks in December 2016 boondocking in my RV I lovingly call "Betsy." You can see her in the background of the photo showing the sideview of my painting! It was cold and the colors of the seascape were all neutral with the exception of the sunrises and sunsets.  I was most impressed by the stark contrast of the white sand against the blackish plants and the swirling lines made by the roots reaching out of the dunes. Capturing the subtle shifts in color in the wet sand, the different depths of water, and the reflections of the sky and clouds off the water, were an exciting challenge. This painting depicts Bird Island Basin, a campground within PINS, which is a rocky shoreline with soft waves where birds and windsurfers gather.  I had a great time sitting in my hammock over the water and taking in the peaceful surroundings. It was definitely what my should needed.

You may notice some small white circles on the bottom corners on the back of the painting.  These are removable velcro tabs. they keep the painting on the wall and stop it from swaying when I'm driving Betsy down the road.

Happy Trails!

Vanessa
